As Ukraine accelerates the rehabilitation of its aging hydropower plants, backed by international funding and modernization efforts, a hidden hazard remains embedded within much of the legacy infrastructure: asbestos. Installed decades ago for its heat resistance and durability, asbestos-containing materials can be found in turbines, pipe insulation, gaskets, electrical systems, and auxiliary buildings.
